Changes
of Our
Age
by Indigo C.
There is change in everything;
our morals, words and people
There is change in everything,
Not all of it is equal
As I am getting older, these things are all eroding
My future full of justice, an idea now imploding
The changes of today, are tools and joys and dangers
People absorb everything from arti昀椀cial strangers
Now children do not listen, there is violence on their screens
This tool is a weapon, it’s erasing all their dreams
Now people can’t see people, ignorance is preferred
It’s poison, and it spreads: a hate you haven’t seen or heard
They scroll and like, and this new tool, it takes in all their fears
From that it makes more to consume: who to hate this year
You struggle to trust anything,
you do not know what’s real:
just that you consume it
and how it should make you feel
What was once horri昀椀c fantasy,
this arti昀椀cial age
From books of which the children
cannot read a single page
But there is change in everything,
in them, and you and I
There is hope to heal the future,
as long as we will try
Indigo is a runner-up in
the Poetry category for
this year’s Teen Writing
Contest.
